New Sluice Terneuzen
In Terneuzen, a lot of work is being carried out on a New Sluice Terneuzen. With a length of 427 meters, a width of 55 meters and a depth of 16.44 meters, the New Sluice becomes one of the largest locks in the world. In terms of dimensions, the Terneuzen lock is comparable to the locks in the Panama Canal, but slightly smaller than the Kieldrecht lock near Antwerp (in use in 2016) and the new sea lock in IJmuiden, which will be completed in early 2022.
GSNED previously carried out hundreds of CPTs, commissioned by the consortium Sassevaart (BAM, DEME and Algemene Aannemingen Van Laere), provided maintenance to the monitoring wells placed by third parties, installed new monitoring wells and carried out swelling measurements.
Last weekend GSNED started installing water pressure gauges in the construction docks. Because the construction docks cannot be entered, the equipment is hoisted into the construction dock.
The water tension meters are placed to a depth of -40 NAP.
